One of the more difficult things to learn in spey casting is the D/V loop sweep and the forward stroke. When I moved to my left hand, I worked the switch cast alot to grove the sweep and the forward cast. As Chris and Paul mentioned, make a switch cast with your right on top and next cast move to t...

I just purchsed the Starrett No 1010 pocket dial thickness gage on ebay. The is a niffty little tool. A little on the spendy side if purchasing new, but should provide a life time of service. Easy to calibrate as well. Measures in .001" increments. I prefer the model with flat surfaces instead...

Almost a year ago, I used the Winston BIIIx 9' 7wt to pass the MCI exam. The BIIIx rod has a real nice balance of power and finesse to cast short, cast curves, areal mends and go the 85' distance all with smooth casting. Just a few years ago, several friends raved about the Sage XP for CI and MCI e...

Lees Ferry is in northern Arizonia at Page. The San Juan is in the north west corner of New Mexico at Farmington.

I just looked up the one of the clubs, and it is Desert Fly Casters. The other club is Arizonia Flycasters Club.

How many of us when we were preparing for the tests heard comments such as, you don't want so and so, he never passes anyone. Don't mention such and such, they don't want to hear that. Be very careful what you say or they will let you dig yourself a hole you can't get out of. I even heard that they...

My limited experience in the Phoenix area in the winter, found bass and carp fishing within one hours drive in the area. Most of the locals travel to Lees Ferry (5 hrs)or the San Juan (10 hrs) to fish for trout. There are a couple of fly fishing clubs in the Phoenix area. One of them is Desert Fly ...

Hi Eric, I swing flies with tips a lot more than I strip streamers. When swinging flies, I like my line to be hocked similiar to a this "j". With a slight hock at the end of the line, I get my fly to swing across the current giving the fish sideways profile of the fly. This give the fly a...

Several things I like to work on when the wind is blowing are 1) Wind casts moving around the field to change the direction the wind is to my casting arm; 2) making back cast directly into the wind to the point whick I can shoot line on the back cast into the wind. Making back cast into the wind re...

I know that there have been commnets about canidates finding the MCI examiners difficult and not following the testing protocol laid out by the FFF. In my recent MCI testing experience, I feel the examiners worked to create a comfortable testing tone while upholding the standards of the FFF. Dave B...
