Couple of my favorites. 4/0 Crease fly (for surf stripers) with a size 12 chironomid Klink (lake trout) on it's nose.

Just saw the video. I agree with Pete. The tarpon in the boat clip was not kosher. Dangerous and the chances the fish survived pretty slim. :(

Sushi: I think you are overanalyzing this. Totally understandable. I think we all do that from time-to-time. Just find some gear to practice casting with ( before the trip) and don't worry about reels and dominant hands. The first hour or so on the deck of the boat will work out most of the mental ...

You will see the fish coming towards you and must react quickly, it's like gun fighting in the wild west. This is a very important point. These large fish don't look like they are moving all that fast. You see the dark shapes a way off and figure you have plenty of time. Not so. The fish are moving...

The Rio running line (power flex) is great for handling, but you do give up some performance. Anyone have some experience with a setup with a stretch of "handling line" between their head and running line? Eric: If you feel the Rio shooting line carefully, you will notice it has a handlin...

SOT Kayak For Salt and some Freshwater - Surf Launches and Stability Are Key

I am trying to figure out what sit on top kayak would be best for surf launches and flyfishing the Pacific nearshore. A lot of locals use them with conventional gear, but no one around here fly fishes from them in the salt. I am leaning towards a 9' craft for portability. I won't be taking long pad...

Al: I have to second Morsie on this. The original Outbound would be perfect for small 3" flies. Mine is due to be re-spliced. An alternative, if you are so inclined, is to splice a Scandi head onto a good shooting line. I thought Rio or barstool made such a line (one piece), but I don't seem t...

Gnarly stuff.

Sudesh. How come you did not get back to terra firma more quickly? I was worried you were going to get a Nantucket sleigh ride into the rip.

I was wondering if a whip produced a similar sound signature. Aside from the terminal crack there appears to be some similarity. That would suggest line ( not rod) effects to me

Doesn't seem to be coming from the line to me. Maybe the rod tip?

Are you using a 50lb Gudebrod sleeve? 50 lb Braid works nicely. An Albright ( butt to tippet) and a whipped loop ( butt to fly line loop)also works. I tried a nail knot, but the coating sheared off when I really pulled on it. I may try a welded loop ( heat gun and clear heat shrink tubing technique...

I run 80lb dacron on mine and most importantly a high quality ball bearing snap swivel to attach the teaser. Undoubtedly the way to go. My friend was using 50 lb mono straight to a large wooden plug. The lure was skipping on the second or third wake and no doubt spinning in the process. I can recal...

Looks like the mates are using guideless rods. We found they work great until you get bad line twist from a poorly balanced lure/teaser. Line jam inside the blank is an absolute pig! That welder intensity blue and the screaming yellow of a lit up Dorado are two of the coolest colors on the planet. ...
