I had a geometry teacher once say to a young lady in the class room, "If you've got the curves then I've got the angles" Do you think he was a fly fisherman referring to the Common Cents system and his "action angles"? :p Got to keep it lite.

Now that I've read thru all this disagreement and confusion, I think I'm ready to go in and watch some election results.

See Magnus gets it! I want to know more information before that first date, not less. You don't just say I want a short or long rod, you ask for an 8'6" or 9'. You quantify it, just as the CC can help you quantify other aspects of the rod. Otherwise you pick up that blind date and find out tha...

Paul, you said it best, you may want a first date with that Mail-Order bride but I want to know her stats like 36-24-36 long before I ever want that date. :D

I guess I can throw in my two (common) cents on this. I for one applaud any system which simplifies and adds structure to variability within a set. Maybe to expert casters such as yourselves, stucture or simplicity is not needed but to many it would make life easier. Case in point, I owned a St. Cr...

What do you feel is the most common casting error?

Just curious, what the title asks for concerning the masses, for me personally it would be that I don't stop the forward stroke abruptly enough and tend to lower my rod tip too quickly with the resultant open loop at the end.

I say if you're going to spend that much $ on a rod, then you've got to try them both out PERIOD So beg, borrow or steal a pair and give them a toss. Everyone here will tell you that they are both excellent rods, but you are paying a lot of money for a subjective "feel", because again, th...

Mike, good stuff. BTW, this Berkley Vanish fluro fishing line is exactly what the guide was using, not a marketed true fluro leader material. Now I'm not sure if he was using it because of the relatively cheap cost as he is booked with clients throughout the season or he feels it is actually better...

Well, I sure didn't know anything about how long this stuff takes to break down. Really makes one think. Anyone have an idea how long it takes for more standard polymers to break down? Before I read these replies I went out and picked some up and I don't think cost is a problem when used as this fe...

Fluorocarbon mono used for leader

I just got done reading on an interesting website by a fellow who guides out of Canada for smallmouth bass, trout and steelhead and he likes to use a straight one piece 12-15 ft section of fluorocarbon mono 4-8 lb test for his leader. Anybody else use this type of straight one piece non-tapered lea...

Anything wrong with a Belgian cast?

Hey casting gurus, are there any disadvantages with what I think they call a Belgian(sp?) cast? What I mean is that the back cast is not perpendicular to the plane of the water but slightly off at an angle of say 1:00 if you were viewing the caster from his back and then you make a small loop or ro...

William, you know you're right, this lifetime thing is crazy when looking into the future that far. I mean if it were just let's say 5 years, and you paid $600 for the rod, then that's only $120 year for a whole lotta fun and you still have given the customer a warranty that will more than cover an...

Let's take a look at a Sage that retails here in the US at $600. Actual Material costs only account for $75 or less on that entire rod and that's figuring in some labor such as the production of the blank itself. The rest is construction labor, marketing, R & D, distribution and other more mino...

Alright, if we want to talk about lines that let us down (again no reference to the Wulff TT sink tip ... err I mean floating line - no pun intended) or didn't live up to our expectations, then I have to throw the Cortland 444 Lazerlines into that trash heap. Distance line my a$$, maybe a longer be...
