What a great thread! And not just because of the happy progression. I have a few thoughts on casting in windy conditions. I also like casting into the wind; good thing too, or I wouldn't have many days in the winter to cast at all, or fish either. What never ceases to cause me childish delight is c...

I'm kinda proud to announce that I can now shoot line consistently on my BC. Not much, 4-6 feet or so, but it works. My training schedule was also bit interrupted by going fishing (reservoir). Now that is great news! "Only" 4 to 6 feet is waaay better than slack in the line at the start o...

Aitor,

That is a very interesting video. I assume that's Mel Krieger. It looks like a two-stage haul he's doing. Do you have a link to the whole video?

Cheers,
Jim

It's a shame that those who grab fish with thumb and index finger, then yank them out of the water and hold them horizontal with one hand didn't catch a 3 lb brook trout as their first fish and try that method.

I see no reason whatsoever to handle any fish in that manner.

I don't know about European species or fish as a whole, but for brook trout and landlocked salmon in tanin stained water, gold tinsel as opposed to silver usually meant fish as opposed to casting practice.

Bernd, http://www.stripersonline.com/f/161/fly-fishing-forum is a site dedicated to striper fishing that has attracted surf fly fishermen from Cape Cod in Mass south to the Chesapeake Bay. It is a seasonal fishery, and varies from year to year, but those guys keep up on it. Some fish from boats as ...

That wouldn't surprise me, Marc, I' ve been doing enough of that lately! I start off the day creeping, progress to hobbling, but after I've finished my pot of coffee and a couple aspirin, I do all right.

I find an electronic 6" digital caliper to be nearly as accurate and easier to use than a micrometer I agree, and they are both faster and way more versatile for other things since they do inside and outside measurements and most reasonably priced ones open to just over 6 inches. For measuring...

Thanks Paul,

I've only used the "stab" or "thrust" mainly because I had never thought of, or learned about pull back for that purpose until just yesterday. I will try it next time I'm casting the big rod.

Hope you are getting in more fishing than me.

Cheers,
Jim

My backs are always better than my fronts ,unless I stab Thanks, Slack. That's exactly what I do with one rod/line setup in particular if I want tight loops on a long cast without shortening the casting arc. With layback and pulling to a close to vertical position on the forward cast Paul, would el...

Was reading old threads today

On pull back. A guy asked me a guestion about it for distance casting a while back and I told him I'd never heard of it except for doing tuck casts, hooks and after the cast for emergencies like dying presentations. But after reading that it can help narrow up loops, I got to thinking that perhaps ...

It is part of the game. You could however argue IMO if a manufacturer should supply you with a standard spare set of cork washers with the initial purchase. I agree. But the problem with the Tibor is that the cork is glued to the big aluminum gear. The spool itself is what rides on the cork. There ...
