Hmm, I'm very tempted to kill Victor off when the board moves. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I used to keep records of conditions when I practiced. I haven't done it for ages because I rarely practice distance these days. High pressure (over 1020MB) were bad, low pressure (below 980MB) was good. I had a red letter day at 940MB and was near suicidal at 2040MB. Normal humidity (60 to 90%) do...

After a while you will never think about casting when fishing I'm not sure I actually agree with that statement. As you say, many of us have spent thousands of hours working on our casting. I think it becomes second nature to think about the casting when we fish. Saying you can't, or don't, is a bi...

Me too Vince. I still have to work out the how but I am now getting to grips with the why.

It was meant as an exclamation of surprise and dismay Bernd. Bloody Hell, bugger it, and bollocks all vary in meaning depending on the context they are used in. If a fish comes off I may throw the rod down in disgust while shouting 'bloody buggering bollocks' or I may just tut, it depends on how mu...

A fly only anchor is going to skip. A fly and leader only is likely to slip so perhaps it's more important to make sure of a solid anchor than how it lays out. Obviously you don't want too much fly line in the anchor although, from the clips I have watched, you can have quite a lot of line on the w...

I see it better on that clip Bernd. I assume we have missed a bit of Knuts lift?

How curved can the anchor be? I know Andrew Toft doesn't believe it to be necessary.

Apart from both hand lifting on the lift I don't see anything different.

I put the low stop down to using a head on the 'moody' clips Chris. I could be wrong.

I agree Bernd. I was asked what the three principles were and I didn't know. When I heard them I couldn't understand why they started with the D loop when so much had gone on before the D is created. I assumed the three principles were on a par with the five essentials. But, as far as I am aware th...

What gets the anchor in the right place on a switch or single spey, gravity and timing or the lifting of the rod tip? I keep hearing that the raising of the rod tip into the 'ready' position at the right time is what forces the anchor down to the water. Personally I don't buy it.

So, all the principles, apart from squaring the body to the target, are to do with anchor placement onwards, none about setting up?

While we are talking about the D loop (my apex tends to be low btw) why do we have to be able to form a round D loop, if we want to.

As a spey cast is a roll cast with a manipulation of the line to align the leader to the direction of the cast do any of the principles refer to this setting up?

Principles - how many

Just to settle a debate, how many and what are the principles of spey casting?
