Ps , If youre up in the Cape Cod area, Id also look into fishing Rhode Island , from what I hear theres pretty good land based fishing there. Ive been out in Montauk fishing from a boat. This was in the mid 90s. From what I remember the boat will give you a fairly good idea where you can catch fish...

Bernd, If youre in the area, let me know . I live in central jersey , near the coast , not far from the fishing grounds. This year the weather has been so warm that the ocean is warmer than I have ever remembered it so Im not sure when the fall bass runwill start.

I saw Bill Catherwood tie a Giant Killer a number of years ago. He had dumbell glass eyes that he just tied in near the end of the tying process. Theyre hard to get your hands on but look good when tied in.

Good looking fly .

Its the capsaicin in the peppers that give them the heat. Heat is measured in Scoville units .The average jalopeno pepper has below 20000 Scoville units to it , while some peppers with real heat have above 100,000 SUs to them. The wildly hot stuff will hit a million Scoville units and make it near ...

Slack, Im not 100% sure but I think there's a clip of him here that you might be able to find using the SL search engine. As Im righthanded and do alot of fishing facing east with frequent southwest or southeast winds I tried to figure out that cast, but I never got very good at it. One of his tric...

Ps In his first post Slack asked about a clip showing one casting lage flies. Years ago Marc Sedotti who used to visit us here now and then was famous for throwing huge flies that he tied up with keels in them the proverbial mile . He threw backwards with a method I think he called the Sayanara Sli...

Slack , Another solution I have learned over the years is to learn how to tie big flies without adding all that much bulk . You dont want a fly that looks like a stuffed toy on land but you do want one that opens in the water to look big . Most store bought big flies look too bulky to me as do alot...

I remember reading a long time ago that an 11 weight line could throw a 5 inch plug. I never tried it but I believe it. If you look at the weight charts of lines an 11 weight line is substantially heavier than a 10 wt. line. I use big flies around here in the fall fishing for stripers and bluefish ...

Marc, That must have been fun ! The only big city Ive ridden around on a bike is Philadelphia and for some reason I seemed to fit right in with the cars. Down along the Jersey shore riding along the beach would seem an ideal place to cycle but for some reason there is always alot of conflict betwee...

Thanks for the well wishes. I think my bike except for the handle bars which are twisted like pretzels , made it thru the accident w/o as much injury as me. However I have it at the cycle shop for close examination .

Hit by a Car while cycling - Some manshit from an old timer

I turned 65 last Sunday and know from a few years back that Im one of the older folks here on SL. By the end of 2008 I was getting fat and for a new world to explore I decided to take more interest in cycling and God Forbid, watching my diet and what I eat. My new goal is to live to 105 and to be a...

Does this happen in all colors or just certain ones ? Ive had some problems with black some yellows, and some chartreuses over the years and have attributed it to the dying process. Try tying a few plain white flies. If it happens its the tying process, if it doesnt it could be the dying process. J...
