Good morning Mr Bumcast. I love your description, "teaching my self to drive it." Because that is exactly what you are doing, therefore a perfect description of the learning to cast process. Here in my country, Australia, I couldn't find anybody to teach me, all the experts, were just gre...

Hi Mike. The Starling is also a pest in this country, Australia. After skinng a sleeping bird, I have often looked at the now naked body and thought, hey, I am looking at a quail, its about the same colour flesh and is heavyly breasted also. But, I just don't cooked the rotten little things, maybe ...

Good morning Mike. I thought trying to lighten the natural Starling colour, to allow a dye to produce a olive colour would have been a complex problem, just like it is here, in this country. I have found Ladies Hair bleaching material the safest and easiest to use, however to do this first the skin...

Good evening Mike. Starlings, I was shown about 40years plus ago, the use of the neck feathers for mini flies, flies in the sub # 20range. From there, a Starling has never been wasted. All collected with a sweet 410 and #8's. I still have a couple of necks in the box. Question, as the feathers are ...

Hi Paul, Guess you'll all then march to the same "tune". How boring!! YES, Sexyloops was about the "science" of casting" A fact I thought you, as a great caster, would have been very proud to give this small gift to the casting World. Because NO OTHER Site gives or even sug...

Good evening SMS. I have never seen such a monster reel before ! It, the reel must have been made specially for Mr Clark. As its not shown in any catalogues I could find, nothing that big, at least 350mm in dia., Arr, come Clark, tell all about the reel, why was it made, a special and why? Are you ...

Hi Clark.
What on Earth is that reel you have, its a monster !
Its bigger than your head, or isn't that Yellowtail Kingfish, as big as it first appears.

At a guess 'that' reel must be at least 350mm around or even bigger.
So, what is it, a special made just for you or what ?

Good morning Jay. Yes, you are very correct, they are some what heavier, than single hand rod loads, the double handed rod/line loads. Normally, as a guessable figure, the DH Line load is equal to about 2 sizes heavier for a single handed line. Hence my suggestion of using a normal D/T line or the ...

Good evening Walden. May I take the liberty to suggest you chose a Roman Moser Far and Fine line ? I teach Single Handed Spey casting and have found that this model, perfoms better and is easier to use, than some of the 'known' brands. In fact, it is the line I recommond for Single Handed Spey. If ...

Hi. Another suggestion, that appears to perform, so far. Is to use a Scotch Scrubing patch, its green and make of a fine inter woven plastic type of material. Here in Australia, they, as they come in 2 per packet, are only $au2.00. When refitting felt or these Scotch pads, you may find that a produ...

Hi Bob. I was told, some years ago, that real felt was better at the anti slip thing than the syn, material, rightly or wrongly? Hence the reason why I suggested what I did and the thought that Paul could have been still in New Zealand Which could or maybe be easier to obtain than importing from th...

Hi Paul.
May I suggest you could try a Saddler's shop or a Horse equipment type shop.
They normally carry thickness of up to 1/2inch, 12mm.

Kind regards and all the best,
Barry.

OK boys. Enough of this nonsense, let's get serious, and back to the original topic. i.e. BGFF reels on double rods - Max's thread. Good evening Magnus, You had some very interesting and worthwhile observations regarding casting with the extra weight of this form of larger reel. The balance may or ...
