I do not try to cast long distance with only 30 feet of WF off the rod tip. The shooting head also has much thinner diameter shooting line, which seems less tolerant of rapid fluctuations in tension. That said, it may just be that I am more conscious of making a more measured backcast when using he...

Something i would do different with a shooting head and a thin/mono shooting line is stopping or slowing down the underline/shooting line in situations with a wind in from the front to straighten the leader. With f.ex. my S.A. Steelhead taper (WF) it wouldn't be nescessary because usually straighte...

Just a small detail... Svend smashed the rod in the ground to be able to not make a stop in his first attempts. That worked for him to release without a stop to start with (he has for sure optimized his technique because no one want to smash the water (or ground) with every cast) ... Those i have &...

Okay, so you stop the rod and then release the line when shooting. Then as you say, you are not already doing it... As an answer to that and to post 399: (if you want to try it out): Start out with shooting only a short line. Cast as you are used too, but release the line BEFORE you would normally ...

It is no secret as grhen says, but many doesn't do it. And not many has been teached to do it. (Some have...

As Svend menchioned lots use it here in Denmark, mainly because of marketing/promotion. I rarely use it myself, only when i find it nescessary which mainly is sometimes when fishing dry flies (mainly to avoid FLS / floating leader syndrome) on glassy surfaces. What i do not like is that it has some...
