Good post Bernd, made me think again !!! The only thing i am sure about in relation to cast & release/shooting line "style" is that many flyfishers stop the rod and then release the line (as they were taught) with a huge amount of counterflex slowing down the underline and therefore m...

Hi Rasmus, the "stop" in my personal book (this may be different from what I am teaching...) is a process which starts in my head and ends in the rod tip being almost motionless. Jason Borger and Grunde Lövoll have nailed this topic pretty well! http://www.sexyloops.com/articles/rodcast.s...

Hi Paul, good point. When we talk about styles we talk about a whole cycle of fly casting. Each cycle includes a forward and a back cast. Each back cast includes a stop and so on... Greets Bernd But the forward cast ? If you shoot line, does a forward cast also include a stop ? I think there's two ...

By the way... ! From Leftys photo gallery http://leftykreh.com/cast21.html "Lefty makes a long cast on the Upper Potomac River. This shot was used on the cover of the video produced by Gary Borger called "Fly Casting with Lefty Kreh" " That's really a different style of a "...

Cast & Release... ??? It's a casting / delivery style when shooting line in my opinion.... There's a "style" difference in stopping the rod for the delivery or just delivering without stopping the rod... two different ways/styles of shooting line... :???: http://www.sexyloops.co.uk/cg...

Anyone else experimenting with Cast and Release? Is it too difficult to change the muscle and mind memory of the "stop" for the majority of casters or ? Is it against the rules of the common teaching of the FFF not to use a stop when shooting line ? Paul got some mind and muscle memory wr...

Get it, SL = sexyloops :O Can we have some kind of sticky page, like Casting Definitions, where site abbreviations are defined. I had struggled with discussions about RSP1 and RSP2 and having to guess what these terms might mean. I did a search and have found these: MCF = Maximum Counterflex RSP = ...

Lucian I read your post again, and just to be sure... !!! "Cast & Release" can be used for shooting line... !!! The loop will unroll slowly from the underline slowed down by rod rings when pulling out shooting line, in steadt of unrolling directly from a stop of the rod. It will give ...

I think just a little dish washing soap could keep the mosquitoes away without destroying your flylines. The soap will take away the surface tension and i think it will result in the mosquto larvae being unable to hang in the surface breathing. After a hard days casting, foam could build up though ...

Hi Lucian The release becomes the stop in a way, because when you release the rod has done what it is supposed to do... But you do not have to stop the rod, just release the line when shooting... Try to just let the line go, release it before you would make a stop and you will see the nicest pointe...

Thanks ! I am not sure that i completely understand every detail in the posts above. But comments like late turnover (loop turnover), release at maximum speed and so on seems to fit very well with the idea of cast & release... For most used to cast with a stop it takes some serious work on the ...
