This clip was taken this afternoon, my top hand moved only to enable the appropriate casting arc - all speed/force came from the bottom hand. Alan, The video showing the instant center of rotation flow for the first false cast in that video is at [url=http://vimeo.com /32824516]http://vimeo.com/328...

Yes, R1 and R2 are in the same direction. Bottom hand and line, both pull the rod. Top hand (F1) pushes. Yes, lake on the truck as you are not casting on a platform (ie lake) that moves like your top hand. In order for the fulcrum to really exist, you need that point not tom move in the framework. ...

Again, movement is not force. If you apply resistance (not in electrical sense), you apply force. R1 is bottom hand, F1 is top hand and R2 is rod tip: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/beams-support-forces-d_1311.html The lake is not on the truck. If you mess with framework, you mess the whole thin...

Most of the motion comes from your bottom hand. But, and it is a big but, you are applying still quite a lot of force with your top hand. I consider my top hand to be providing resistance not force, resistance in the same way as any fulcrum resists pressure that has to be applied to it in order for...

Ok Gordy, here is something for you to work with. This clip was taken this afternoon, my top hand moved only to enable the appropriate casting arc - all speed/force came from the bottom hand. The top hand guided the tip path and enabled the stop, nothing more. Unless of course I cannot feel or appr...

Mark, I like the truth wherever possible and with the top hand fulcrum concept I believe I have it. So far all I have is Gordy's suggestion that a computer program will give me the truth. I know that I am a competent enough DH caster to feel the differences in rod loading 'v' effort depending on ho...

Hey Lee, Those pictures dont in any way replicate the casting style I am talking about. Those shots were taken while casting an 85' head on a 15' rod and reflect a style I would use for distance casting, lots of drift, wide casting arc and pushing on with the top hand to finish. They were also take...

Alejandro - a wise person once told me that there are very few absolutes in fly casting. We use a lot of anecdotes like, "You have to stop the rod", or "the line follows the rod tip", or "Don't use the wrist" because they help people understand a concept and seem to wo...

I agree Mark, thats why I think its difficult to always be precise on what terms we use to teach with.

A different scenario. We have a pupil who is learning the single spey. His speed of movement and pauses from line hang down to the final execution of the forward cast are all perfect and are all of a suitable tempo. His problem however is he doesnt use enough effort/speed on his forward cast to sho...

As for the quote, I cant really see how we can separate the two. . Me neither,.... its so obviously not the case that the two are separate, I wonder whether its intended to mean something completely different. Basically that it is possible to keep an even "speed" or "tempo" thro...

Didn't mean to get you involved in any sort of controversy Alan, sorry... I can completely understand how it is used in the same way that we would use "rhythm" or "beat" teaching wise, they're just words after all....its very clear in 2D casts how this works, not so clear in spe...

Loads on tempo Andrew, in this case it seems to me to be about varying speed.. Al Buhr Alan (Springer) refers to tempo on his site too. I think the idea if tempo in Spey casting is just to give your movements fluidity. You don't think its about speed then ? Hi Mark, Thanks for linking to my site, i...

Gordy, Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed reply, I will take the time to try and digest the wikipedia article. What format of video footage would I need to supply you with for a series of different style of casts to be looked at. I can shoot at 60fps HD which can then be slowed to a...

Gordy, Please forgive my ignorance and my lack of in depth research into this IC stuff. Would I be right in assuming that in laymans terms you are saying this; The COR is determined as the point on the rod butt where the nearest balance (or neutrality) of speed between top and bottom hand is achiev...
