It looks to me that it is a 1/2 of a double spey, and the other 1/2 is a kack-handed roll cast that becomes a movement into the firing position for the fwd cast.
The later 1/2 cast employs a virtual pulley (apex of the D loop) to energize the anchor into the right place without having the rod tip travel as far upstream as a full and proper double spey. This economy in movement allows the caster to get into the firing position early, thus the ability to fire when the kiss and go anchor hits.

Hi Crunch,crunch wrote:Bad Double Spey
what makes it a bad example of a double Spey cast?
I agree it's a double Spey.

I see the downstream rod tip movement (some term it as a snap) as assisting the anchor to move further upstream, thus making the balance of the double spey rod tip upstream movement redundant.
I like to think this is a Half-and-Half (Double anchor lift, Snap Tee jedi rod movement for balance of relocating anchor).
Much like a hybrid.

that's what i was thinking at first Lee and the short head seems to be what makes this cast possible, however, if it is a mistake, the bloke's reaction time to catch up and make it work is quite f'n good !totsy wrote:Isnt it a shit double that he is able to get away with because of the short head?
for those who called Snap-Double, is this a known cast or did you make it up ? ok, i don't know much but i've never heard of it before.
cheers,
