I love all the Scott S4s rods i have.
I was fishing for Bass last week with my 5# S4s and it was superb.
Nicer to cast with and fish with then the Sage Tcr 5 i have.
Not done any serious distance casting with the five yet but i think it will perform just as well as any other distance five but with more feel.

Thanks for the input. It might be difficult to find someone with the Pacbay blank rod but I'll try to get a trial with the ones I can.

Never tried the Scott. You don't need a rod with a line class of 5 written on the handle either for practise or the World Championships and can use an 7 or 8-weight if you prefer. I've been using the TCX6, but my next rod is going to be the Xi3.

Paul, how come you're moving towards stiffer and stiffer rods? I take that it's the 6 Xi3 you're getting ;)

Or have you just dropped that freshwater thing for the salt :p

Paul, one of the rods you cast at the melbourne Sexyloops gathering in the distance comp was the Scott S4s 5wt.

Ah, OK! Did I like it? :)
Paul, how come you're moving towards stiffer and stiffer rods?

Because I keep breaking them :glare: :p

No it's undoubtedly the opposite, Lasse. I'm using stiffer rods because I find them more effective as I learn to cast further.

See, that makes more sense
So now you need to find a stiff and strong rod, maybe fiberglass?

My first rod was fibreglass... I'll look it out. Thanks for the tip, Lasse! :p

Have you found a quantifiable limit to this Paul?

I know that there is a limit but I don't know what it is yet. I was flinging the Barrio 5 on the TCX 10 in Australia which wasn't particularly pleasant but goes a long way. I would have thought a TCX7 or 8 would be best for me in this range but haven't had the opportunity to experiment.

Actually go for cane instead, that might give you something you'll have a hard time breaking

How come I don't break rods?

Being built like a rubber band has advantages. You can wind yourself up like a spring and unleash some furious energy. So I am not sure why Lasse doesn’t break more rods. There’s nothing wrong with being light-in-the-ass mon frere.
