Compact flashMemry Cards

Post by Crackaig »

My Nikons use Compact Flash cards. Last August I bought two new ones from Transcend. The first one died in October last year. Will not read, format or anything.

Today I had the opportunity for a quick trip up to Loch Farlary. Very unusual weather conditions, Mist and wind! Caught some great shots, but, unfortunately the camera I grabbed on my way out had the other Transcend card in it. I am unable to download the images and need to format the card.

Has anyone else had these kinds of problems with Transcend cards?

Looks like I'll have to stump up for new ones. One thing is for sure, the new ones will not be from Transcend.

Cheers,
C.

Craig I only use Sandisk. I have dropped these into the water and have put one through the washing machine. They still work. I think I would want to kill someone if a CF card played up on me like that.

That about sums up about how I felt. After posting I went and ordered two Sandisc cards. My original 500Mb card is a Sandisc and is still going after years.
I shouldn't have listened to the advice. Lesson learned.

Cheers,

That sucks big time, sorry to hear it! :(

My film partner and I both have a bunch of Transcend CF cards, mostly 32 GB ones. They've been used pretty intensively for both stills and movie productions in all kinds of locations (hot, cold, humid, underwater, etc.) over the past three years. We've never had a problem with any of them.

I use Sandisk now. But I have used several brands including Transcend. I actually have a transcend somewhere that has a toothmark of one of the dogs. It still worked after having been thrown around and bitten by the dogs. Never had a problem with any of the CF's I have used over the years.
Did you check out the software on your camera?

Checked the camera, also dug out a card reader, and had the same problem so I'm fairly sure its the card.
I wonder if I got them from a bad batch?

It was disappointing, as it was weird weather, misty and bright but windy. Really weird almost unearthly, and the trout were very obliging.

It is always a very big deception if you find out your photos are gone. Especially when your camera just clicks. And it always happens on the most photogenic moments. Bugger mate!

I checked out some of the photo-forums. Some guys having trouble with corrupted CF-cards were successful with the software from this company: http://www.datarescue.com/

Even the free software that comes with Sandisk cards may be able to retrieve the photos.

Hey C!

Don't do this now, but do you remember to format the card EVERY time you've offloaded pictures? It's important to do that, otherwise stuff like what you've just experienced is more likely to happen.

Try a rescue software - even after several formats, there are still hundred of shot on the card :-)

Craig, Lars is right, I have mates who format their card on the camera every time they empty it of pix.

I've had luck with this little app in the past, use Sandisk now & have not had any problems for a while.
(Fingers crossed...)
