After what happened to my G11 I'm fairly paranoid about any water! I looked through the old threads and a lot of people seemed to have recommended the Ortlieb aquazoom bag, so I thought I might pick one of those up.
BTW, I have bought a charger that works on 12v as well. Have one for all my cameras. nothing more crappy than finding out you don't have juice in your battery(ies). Are you getting a battery pack with it?
I'm going to be relatively minimalist at the start - Camera, lens, CF card, polarising filter, bag. Then I'll pick up accessories as I recoup my debt a bit.
Fair enough mate. I believe that the battery allows you to take 800 shots, which does sound like a lot (22 rolls of film). But on a recent hunting trip (last weekend) I took 278 shots in two hours. Especially in the fast mode, the camera eats up the CF-space..
Get a good sized (32 gig) CF card, if you are only carrying one.
I have a 7D with the 16-35 F2.8. It fits in the Ortlieb bag with the hood off and lying on the back of the camera. The 70-200 F4 fits in also with the hood reversed.
Jack you may want to rethink your lens choice. Buying a lens that will only work on a crop camera might not be the way forward.

I can fit my 5D Mark II with the bulky 24-70 f/2.8 (without hood) into my Ortlieb.
I'm about to replace my Ortlieb, btw. It has lasted 7 years of abuse and has saved my camera on several occasions. It's always with me when I go fishing. Guess what I'll replace it with
Bit the bullet. Canon 7d and 17-55mm f2.8 lens. Also have an Ortlieb Aquazoom bag coming in from the UK - after exchange and tax it worked out at under $100 NZ (the camera and lens was ever so slightly more than that...)
