off side - roll cast
Another problem for you to work out.
When forming the D loop off side I tend to drag the D right round behind me which makes the off side roll cast very inefficient. Any tips on off side tracking the rod straighter so the D is to my side, not behind?

I'll give this one a go! When I slide the line back to form the D, my tricep ends up parallel to the water and my forearm is canted over to the left with my thumb ending up about level with the top of my head. For me this tends to get rid of any tracking errors that might occur if the thumb was brought up to the other ear, or the hand taken back over the top of the head, and gives a nice natural stop position. I can't hook the D loop behind me if my head's in the way! Am I explaining that ok?

Im with Escape from New York.
Will gave me my best roll cast tip. If you start the forward cast really slow, and I mean, really slow (it seems too slow), you can feel the rod start to load even with a really small D. Its the slightest sensation of 'load'. Hit it at this point and its a very clean cast.
Ta, Lee.

It's the off side set up, I keep draging the D around behind me.

Hi Mike, I struggled a lot with this as I practised for my exam and one way of knowing what's wrong is to aim from left to right, in a sector in front of you. Where the loop unrolls straight you can bet the set up is straight. One often tend to do the same fault in the BC and by adjusting the FC you will find out what's wrong in behind. This worked for me anyway =) If you already know what's wrong then this will be useless I guess... I tried different grips and different positions for my hand (slightly off to very off shoulder), finally I found a way that worked and felt very comfortable, thing is the Cross body casts is easier to perform sometimes, at least the rotation will be naturally late...
