Alrighty, let's get it rolling. Don't think anyone will oppose the designated charity to be the Australian Red Cross.

Hi Clark
I would like to bid for the casting lesson to be redeemed when I get to NZ which will be at the next NZ conclave. Hope this is acceptable?

My bid = NZ$100 (not sure if this is enough to start with and certainly no offense intended to your teaching abilities if it is too low :)

are you a member of Northern FF Club?? If so, how are you??

FYI Blair's parents lost the roof of their house and subsequently lost all power. They are still without power four weeks after "black Saturday" (media terminology for this event). The fire was across the road from them so the entire Scott family has been traumitised by the same event...

personally I am still not sleeping but will get there.. this was a life-changing event and am seriously considering all options for a change of lifestyle and career...

Thats me :D

I'm great Glenda, I spent quite a bit of time at Stathewen finding people and helping the living (I'm a CFA Fire Fighter or wanker as the yank put it! :p ) it changed me too, we had our own problems associated to the fires but were far enough away not to be directly affected. We are starting to sleep and move on but little things can trigger memories.

Good on you all for the effort.

Andrew Connell

I remembered you are a CFA firefighter... Strathewen would have been awful..

We could not understand why the emergency fire services did not come to our rescue and could not believe the first sign of the outside world were television crews taking shots from helicopters the next morning.

have since learned all the e.services had lots of problems with communications systems in the field. It is amazing we don't have one communication network for all e.services.

For anyone that saw the Sound Relief concerts -

The three photographers (Martin Philbey, Tony Mott and myself) who were given AAA passes have raised over $2500 for the photos so far - all given to the Red Cross Bushfire appeal.

The shows themselves raised over $5,000,000

Just to show that the season isn't quite over this was taken this afternoon 500 meters from home, a hazard reduction burn that got away on them. Fortunately the wind blew it to the edge of the cliff and from there it had no where to go, lets hope it doesn't flare up overnight.

Well done Dave, didn't watch the show was it good?

Spectacular view Pete, is that taken from a tourist viewing/lookout platform?

I'm sure we can expect many more reduction burns into the future...

Yeah from one of the lookouts - that's about 200 meters from home. There's a gorge about 500 meters deep between the people and the fire.
The fire made it into the valley overnight and has been smoldering there all day, choppers firebombing it for the last hour and a half and a fire crew dropped in by chopper about half an hour ago. Beautiful big storm brewing to the south and rain forecast overnight.
