I hope Mark's initiative does not wither on the vine. I am not an engineer or am I much good at maths, but when I first had an interest in fly fishing I bought some gear and tried to learn to cast from books. Most unsuccessful.
A few years later I had another go, this time swoffing.
Still my line landed in a bunch a couple of metres from the rod tip. I did not know of an instructor, and others told me I didn't have to cast far anyway...
I more or less gave up. More years later I have gleaned the basic physics as the sport became a bit more popular and I relocated where I could learn from others.
I lost about 20 years of casting and fishing with the fly- and that's a bit sad.
So I say let's have those terms and their explanations in plain language. I am happy too, if there are more advanced concepts and calculations.
It's a smorgasbord and I will take what I can digest, and what conveys meaning for me. Others will like what I cannot comprehend. So I read a paper by Gatti-Bono et. al. and found the text explanation and diagrams. Now I have an idea of the most efficient loop (if the calculations are right: they do coincide with the SL logo  ) I will let others check the maths.
So bring on the terms and explanations, I would not like to think my poor experience will be repeated.
Cheers,
Richard
