Guy the anger and animosity has been going on for about 120 years, long may it continue. Every few years during the course of this Ashes series we let the poms know that while they thought they were sending a bunch of convicts down here they were actually sending their best people, the cream of the gene pool.

You'd be very welcome in Australia.

Guy on Christmas Island a few years ago I was with a bunch of 16 Aussies. The ribbing amongst the bunch (what we call sledging) was both ceaseless and merciless. Also staying at the Captain Cook hotel was a group of very well behaved yanks, they looked and behaved like very professional people, or university professors while we were like a pack of wharfies. The schedule there doesn't allow much time for socialising with 5.30 am starts and long days on those flats you'd usually hit the sack at about 8.30 and not move again until 5.30 the next morning when its started all over again.

We didn't get to talk to these people until the last morning. I was tour leader and on that last morning I said to them that I hoped we hadn't been too offensive during the course of the week, it was a pretty wild group......... One of the guys said, "No not at all, you've been very entertaining, we'd taken bets on when it would all degenerate into fisticuffs, man you guys go hard at each other but no one takes offense, its amazing to watch".

I took it as a compliment. Now the poms on the other hand...........

I have to laugh when the BBC camera pans the crowd in the UK and (usually) zeroes in on guys dressed up as women and all the other fancy dress you see (you guys really are a mess you know) - but when the cricket's in Australia the cameras constantly zoom in onto gorgeous girls rubbing sun screen onto their almost completely bare chests :p :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

No wonder you can't win, all your players are distracted by the thought of getting dressed up in heels and wigs... :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:
