That's one third of basic, not basic plus one third. My longest continuous shift in the hospital was from thursday morning until monday evening, 104 hours straight.
A lot better these days - it's the three kids that make life tough now!

Luxury.

I used to dream of only working 104 hours on the trot.

I used to get up six hours before I went to bed, drive 10 hours to work, then work 3 weeks straight without any sleep for 2p an hour and if I started to nod off, my boss would beat me over the head with a car jack.

I used to dream of a car jack. When I was a boy they'd make us work 36 hours every day, ten days a week, and if we stopped for a pee they'd kill us, all our family and dance on our graves. And we paid for the privilege because we knew we were lucky to have good honest work.

The book 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' is highly recommended. It suggests you collect assets rather than liabilities.
Paul has it right. Decide what you want to do or where you want to be and then find a way of financing it. To simply sell your body and soul to the highest bidder is a recipe for unhappiness.
