You land lubbers don't know squat.
You want to tie an infallible shoe lace knot?

Lace up completely
Return 1 lace back into it's last eyelet; forming a loop.
Do the same with the other lace.
Now take the left side lace and pass it through the right side loop.
Take the right side lace and pass it through the left side loop.
Tighten.
What you do with all that left over lace is up to you.

That is known as the Missouri knot and was developed by early American frontier traders using leather thongs for shoe laces.

Only for you, Paul:
Here is a pic of my best boots ever, Dahner, and the knot shown is just before tightening:

Now if you have a pair without eyelets like the ones below, then like me, you're dipped. The knot on the left is the beginning of a surgeon's loop, while the one on the right is the completed knot. If the medical profession uses this knot to keep your guts from spilling out, who am I to argue.
The knot in the middle is a "Monkey Fist" it has a golf ball in the center and is the weapon of choice in water front bar fights.

And if you want some serious manshit:

I got these boots when I was commissioned in 1961 and
they still kick a wicked ass.
