Out casting a lot at the moment.....

How much distance would one expect to loose going from cold dry feeling air with an ever so slight tail wind to dry still air, to very damp still air?

I haven't cast very often in such conditions. Here in Malaysia I lose approximately 8-10 feet. In Calgary and West Yellowstone I can gain approximately the same.

Do you find humidity makes much of a difference Paul?

It's supposed to be good, but generally I don't find this the case. Fog and evening mist are terrible. Just prior to rain is poor. There are times in the UK when we've cast on damp cold "heavy" mornings and struggled to pass 100ft. Then in the afternoon, the drizzle lifts, sun comes out and we're hitting 120s.

Hi Ben,
around 8 to 15 feet depending on how strong the tail wind would be and in relation to that how long your belly would be.
If you talk only about a slight tailwind and using GT125 5 or 6 wt. I loose about 10 feet.

We had a nice thread about conditions with lots of details around a year ago. Did you check?

There are days in which my distance suddenly decreases about a huge amount. It happens on windless days and I think it might have something to do with humidity and/or air pressure.
Paul told me to have experienced exactly the same. It only happens in a very few days per year.
Yet I cannot explain what it really is.
(no gin involved in those days )

Referring mainly to heads here. I've lost about 2 metres today, damp & drizzly with no wind over yesterday when it was dry and crisp with no wind which was down 5 metres on the previous day with crisp clear air skies & a bit of a tail wind.

In my case, my best casts were mostly in the afternoon. No wind and hot days. I can do it in winter, but I think this weather makes me feel comfortable :-)

I used to keep records of conditions when I practiced. I haven't done it for ages because I rarely practice distance these days.

High pressure (over 1020MB) were bad, low pressure (below 980MB) was good. I had a red letter day at 940MB and was near suicidal at 2040MB. Normal humidity (60 to 90%) doesn't seem to have a big effect either way. Late evening when the dew is starting to form does, it's crap.
