Some people can do extremely professional unbelievable magical things with a fly rod (that of course no one has done before). :D ;)

unbelievable !!! :p :D :kungfo:

as with most presentation casts explanations, the author doesn't mention what happens if the fish takes and say, runs to the right... but that's neither here or there... :D

he does do the cast very well. good on him

he's doing the circling of the rod tip during the stroke and the same result can be achieved by doing the same circling after the stroke as a mend.

cheers,
marc

Here's a video of an extreme corkscrew mend which places a right angle mend.

The stroke is explained on Jason Borger's blog.

Some people may ask "How far can you make a corkscrew curve mend go?"

While others may ask "How short can you make a leader?"
 :p

Which one was extreme?

Hi Bernd

Well it was a pretty standard 9 foot leader I used for that clip :) Nothing extreme about that I think ;)

Cheers

Hi Lasse,
thanks. Throwing a 9 feet leader in a 90° angle on that distance is quite difficult. Well done though.
The leader may look a bit short since it probably wasn't straight. Hard to see the leader exactly...

To lay the hook to the opposite side - would you cast off shoulder or regular sided here?

I'd learn the "sky curve" :p

Cheers
Lasse

And if I where to try to achieve the same cast in the opposite direction I would go over my other shoulder yes. For the obvious reasons :D

Bernd, you are just jealous because G.F. invented allmost all casts known to mankind...and a few unknown too :p

To top it off he is a humble guy who likes to take a backseat...

Thank you for viewing my "Sky Curve" clip. My apologies for using "Unbelievable" in the title, but I did want to attract viewers and hopefully sell a few magazines for FFSW. Sexy Loops-caliber casters do remarkable and innovative things regularly with fly rods and the article was intended to share a tip that works for me. I call it "Sky Curve" because, when teaching it, I tell students to draw an editor's delete mark in the sky. The cast in the video was done at 60 feet- the cast can be done at greater distances, but accuracy is not as consistant. As for landing a fish, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you have to go after them.

Hi Joe,
welcome on board! No reason to apologize for anything. It's a fine article and a good cast.
