Lowther Game and Country Fair - Aug 11-12th - near Penrith, Cumbria

For many countrysports enthusiasts living in the North-West, the Lowther Game and Country Fair (near Penrith) used to be a must-attend event. But a few years ago it fell foul of the weather big time, and complex issues involving the estate, and temporarily disappeared. The show now has new organisers, Countryman Fairs, who have lots of experience organising events of this kind, but it seems they hadn’t quite found their feet with this show last year. However, they’ve been very receptive to feedback and I’ve been assured that the fishing content of the show will be back to at least what it used to be in the old days, if not improved upon.

And for hunting folk, the hound show on the Saturday has been reinstated, in part. Fell and hill foxhounds will be there, as will terriers and lurchers, but beagles, harriers and studbook hounds are absent but expected to return next year.

I’d judge that the show warrants support from countrysports lovers. It hasn’t been cancelled, like the CLA game Fair and if the weather’s halfway decent I’d suggest it worth a visit. Website is at http://www.countrymanfairs.co.uk/lowther-game-and-country-fair
