Sea Trout - Will's FP

Post by Al Greig »

After reading Will's fp, it occurred to me, that for the first time in many years, I haven't caught one so far this year. I haven't caught any by accident, and I haven't gone after them on purpose either, for one reason or another.

On the positive side, I have heard reports that suggest they are not scarce this year. In my local Scottish estuary they are apparently there in numbers, along with the Mackerel. And a friend who holidays on one of the Scottish west coast islands every year told me that he has never seen so many.

Along side this - abundance of sand eels and sprats in both locations.

Maybe things aren't as bad as we always think they are :)

What's it like where you are?

Seem to be quite a few around us Al. All the rivers near me have them right now.

Some absolute clonkers off the Tweed this year too.

Nice to hear about fish on the W.coast too.

I am fishing for Sea trout all year round. So I catch them quite often. This year started slow but offered good summerfishing to me. The Baltic sea that is.

Magnificent fish Bernd. I'm lucky enough to get quite a few seatrout but few of that size or condition. The other species are pretty good too. I didn't realise the Baltic was so special.

Added to my must fish list!
