I found a stash of old fly tackle catalogues from 2004 and 2006 the other day. XP's, GLX's, CPS's - I don't see how rods have progressed? I'll happily fish with these until I give up fishing. I'm thinking many modern rods are designed for the casting field rather than realworld fishing.

the thing is, that I stacked up a few 6 wts this year...I had a TCR, but a MaxGLX and a One "came in", but I've felt that I have to have an XP, from the time when I casted a friend's 6wt on the river Drina.
The XP just naturally suits me. it has the power, but the feel what I like, and I really do not feel that it's shabby on the casting field, either...heck, maybe it inspires me even to practice and go for "some" casting exam... :p
While the One is just friggin'light, somehow the XP has more feedback-whatever...
And yes, after casting a few minutes with it and the SL-rod, I think there IS a relation between them.

i think the same way. give me a hardy rod from the first half of the '90 and Im more than fine with it, dont look for other rods /with the exception of some modern euronymphing stuff :p /. Just wiggled several times certian xp at shows and some friends sticks and cant get rid of the impression of a tomato stick :D , much prefer my hardy ultralight models , cant see a rod to be made any better than that  :p

XP owner here also....love em in 6 and 8 weight. Z-Axis was nice too and the 6 weight was good, however I give the 6 and heavier lines to XP and the 5 and under to Z-Axis. The Z-Axis reminded me of the first winston b2x rods, light and good feel but lacking casting punch in heavier weights. Then winston comes out with their Bmx to bolster the fast action stiffish heavier lines and it reminded me of sage TCR's....funny how the circle of rodmaking goes....now sage comes out with the circa...trying to get back to that LL series feel? XP still strong and standing the test of time so far! I remember reading a qoute on the XP and it was something like " XP may not be the best at any single task but it sure the hell is very good at all tasks"

I have 3 -- two 5wts 9ft and a 7wt 10ft ... me bad fisherman need no more rods than that

I was quite happy using SA 5wt ED´s on them but I am running out. What floating lines are you guys most happy with on a xp 5wt?

Cheers,
T

Sage PERFORMANCE TAPEEEEER "Mark I"....

but I like the old XXD, and the Barrio 125 6 and 7 is nice on my 6wt...

How do you like the 10' 7 ?...what type of fishing do you do with it? (thinking of stacking up xp's... :p )

Thanks for the input guys.

@skeg - I use the 7wt/10ft for seatrout fishing, mostly with a clear sinking line. Superp rod for that.
