Fast Sink DT10 - for SH work

Post by James9118 »

Does anyone know who is making the densest DT10? I'm wanting a long SH for T38 comps - I can't seem to get on with the short heads that are typically used.

Cheers, James.

Hi James

Would it be comp legal? Isn't there a competition specific line that has to be used in T38?

Otherwise look at something like this: http://www.dan-tackel.com/2203/fluglinor-2-a-sorts-fast-sink-dt

Sometimes they have ultra fast sink DT's, probably some of the densest you'll get, sorry for the foreign language, just say if you need help :)

Cheers

Hi Lasse,

The BFCC rules just state a max weight, 38g and a min length, 15m. I can cast a floating DT10 head (19m, maybe 36g?) further than I can cast the clubs T38 outfits, so I'm thinking a similar head made from a fast sinker may be the way to go for me.

That's interesting - your link has the same photo as where I got my DT10F from: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm....1wt_906

Hi James

I guess we know where Dantackle get's their mill ends from :D

Ok, then go get them  Personally I would go for the 15 meter T38 though, I bet it's just a matter of practice with the tackle. My all time longest cast singlehanded was with a floater in good conditions, but I bet I can do further with a sinker in the same conditions :)

Cheers

James

John Norris do a DT fast sinker but I don't know how fast it is but at £7.99 you won't break the bank.

I've got a chart for lighter line weights (numbers taken from elsewhere).

Line arrived today - it's black and it sinks :D. I'm planning on giving it a chuck tomorrow.

My rough calcs suggest that the T38 line is somewhere around an #11 - someone once told me that a typical T38 rod would be rated equivalent to a #15. Maybe I struggle because I don't get any 'feel' from this arrangement?

(I do like a #5 MED on my #12 rod mind you :D ).

Hi James

Could be :D

Roughly a T38 ends up closer to a 12 than a 11 weight :)

I've only cast T38 rods a few times, and not recently :)
I cast the T38 head I have on a rod that says 12 on the side, or a homemade one made out of a twohanded rod  It goes pretty far, but shootingheads get boring on the field very quickly for me, to much stripping in :glare: So I don't practice it much.

I thought I'd weigh the line I bought before I started chopping it - 42g :???: . I haven't measured its length but to make it a #10 it should only be ~70 ft long  .

Hi James

Mill ends are usually shorter and not to specs in weight ;)
And the tapers are usually also pretty long taking of weight....

92ft. I was expecting much more quality for £7 :D . That makes it somewhere near an #8 if you ignore the tapers. I think I'll re-order for an #11 or #12.

Yeah, sometimes you really do get what you pay for :p

Then again, you did want a longer head ;)

Good luck with the next one!
