Sage 1190 ONE - This a GREAT rod

Post by Morsie »

Finally got to fish the 1190 ONE, this is an absolute ball tearer of a rod, easily the greatest rod I've ever used on a fish. Its very light, very powerful, casts very sweetly and can really pull on a fish. We used it recently to knock over some small Hervey Bay marlin. We also used a new 8000 Pro series reel from Sage. We used the 8 reel on the 11 rod, its big enough (400 yards of 50lb gsp backing) and has a very powerful smooth drag with an incredible range of possible settings.

I bet that rod with the new Rio technical tarpon line will be awesome for small flies for poon, I know there raving about the rod in the keys.
Is it man enough for medium sized GT's with the odd munter thrown in Pete ?

Its always going to depend on the country you're in Mark. I landed a 40lb GT on my 10 ONE in open country and wouldn't hesitate to use the 11 on middle size GT's.

Just trying to warm up your winter nights Skeg, and help your winter dreams as you hibernate.

Here's Diana Rudolph with a 40lb GT landed on a prototype 12 weight. I had heard that when Jerry Siem fishes he never uses a rod that's in current production and its true. He's down here at the moment with Diana (she is a GREAT angler) and he bought a massive rod tube full of a range of prototype saltwater rods that a few of us got to fish with and a few of which may become production rods in a few years time. In whatever range this rod eventually comes out in I want one.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures and maybe Sage could sponsor SL forum for such a free advertizing.

My pleasure Merlin. Should that apply to ALL product mentioned on this web site or just to Sage?

Ah it's fine. Sage used to advertise on Sexyloops - although we don't run adverts on the Board. Everyone knows Morsie is tied with Sage. Most of us have ties somewhere or another. Some push, most don't, Peter pushes pretty hard. But he's pretty exceptional in my eyes so it's OK.

Cheers,
Paul

The 11 weight a limited run or is sage offering it at all times? I remember something of a limited run in the 11 weight some time ago?
