Sorted!

Any chance of adding a column for swing weight too?

Cheers

Just tried to make an entry but there is insufficient space for my email address (one character short).

ooh ok, one sec

edit: OK, easy fix, try now (should be 40chars, upped from 30)

Ben, There's the possibility to add other data fields for sure. This is where we're starting for now :)

While there is space, I believe there is a an insurmountable problem with the term swing weight—it has no unambiguous definition.

For better or for worse, this term has been incorporated into the advertising hype of some rod manufacturers with the connotation that "less is always better." However, without a recognized scale and standardized method for making the measurement, one can generate "relative" values to prove almost anything.

I believe Torsten and Magnus have been looking into the concept, but I have heard of no definite conclusions. In any event, whatever they decide, I believe they will have to give it a new "unique" name and definition.

It would (could) be an interesting number to know, if we could ever decide exactly what was being measured (units?) and the significance of the number.

The situation is also complicated by the fact that the measurement will me made on the rod itself, but the presence of the required reel for fishing changes everything.

Steady on Bill :D we have a method.
....we can measure the overall mass and the balance point (BP) - this way we can determine the average mass density in front and behind the BP.

AMD1= delta m / delta x = (m_overall / 2) / x_BP
AMD2 = (m_overall / 2) / (length_rod - x_BP)

And a method of graphing the mass distribution of the whole rod http://www.sexyloops.co.uk/cgi-bin....;t=5214

Tosten christened that the Average Mass Density (AMD) and the units are g/m.

Yes the reel will impact on the swingweight of the outfit - it has no effect on the swingweight of the rod.

I've used the AMD of individual sections to look at the differences caused by rings - its a very sensitive, repeatable method.

Is there a way to edit entries? I was clearly out of it when I did mine.

Hey Nick,
I haven't built a user edit function yet, but I did make one for database admins. If you just post here what you need changed then we can fix it up pretty easily.

Just reply with the
Entry:
Fields you want to change :)

Eric, Magnus,

I would just like to congratulate you both for your effort in creating the database.

I have moaned a lot for this to be established and therefore it is right that I give you credit for it's creation.

I believe when it gets known it will become 'the place'.

Regards

Redington Red Fly 107/3 146 65 6.89

OK, you should be fixed up Nick.

One thing I didn't mention... Most symbols are removed from entries to protect the innocent.

I noticed that. It's a bit of a problem for models with say a + in it's name :D
