Thanks Merlin

I should have been more clear. I was hoping for a common cents frequency number so I could compare it to another rod I own of similar action.

calculation of CCF
The determination of CCF is summarised below.

1. Support the rod in a horizontal position and deter-
mine the ERN according to the Common Cents System.
(from the data in our rod database ERN for the sage would be 5.8 5.9)

2. Determine the amount of weight (X) to be added,
(in the case of the rod in question 140 grains).

3. Attach the weight (X) to the rod tip top.

4. Depress and quickly release the rod tip to start it
oscillating up and down.

5. Use a stopwatch to determine the number of seconds required for the rod tip to make 20 complete oscillations.

6. Calculate CCF: CCF = 1200 / (number of seconds
for 20 cycles) e.g. If it takes 16.46 seconds for 20
oscillations, then CCF = 1200 / 16.5 = 73
cycles per minute (cpm)

I was expecting a number less than 100 but 156 is not out of the realm of possibility. It would make the rod extremely stiff and from Paul's description of it in other posts I thought it was a bit more forgiving than that.

I gave a look. 156 corresponds to no load. Could be half of that if loaded with 140 grains but I do not have the equivalent mass in mind to estimate the loaded value.

how do you estimate the load value?
grains = OZ or grams equivalent mass?

Thanks Grunde
The calculation gives 70.7
This is 2.5 (and not 2.6) divided by the square root of ( 1+9.1/2.6)
And multiplied by 60

Has anyone noticed how uncommon US cents are outside the USA? I'm so glad you've converted it to grams, making the system globally standardised (as it was purported to be in the first place, but obviously wasn't …)

Cheers,

Just found an article about the "simplified" CCS, cannot find when it was published by Bill. Scales remain the same than before.
