Barbless hooks for salt - Where can I buy them?

Post by Gallah »

I think the subject says it all. Where can I buy barbless hooks, big enough and suitable for saltwater use?

Grip do a size 4 barbless saltwater hook.
I sell loads of them and they are a superb hook as are the standard barbed version.

What's wrong with crushing the barb on a standard hook? It takes 2 seconds with a pair of pliers, but is there something wrong with doing that? Does it weaken the hook or make it susceptable to rust?

Cheers,
Graeme

Graeme, that is what I usually do, and there's a couple of things I don't like about it (but I'm very picky).

First of all, it doesn't look as good.

Second, there's still a little bump there that makes the point a little bit thicker, and thus not as easy to set.

Third, it could weaken the point.

Fourth, I'm very lazy.

Fifth, some barbless hooks are made with longer or upturned points to aid a little bit in keeping the fish hooked.

But it's mostly about the first thing. I just think they make nicer looking flies.

;)
