Tiny BWO step-by-step - on Mustad 277 #32
It was at BFFI 2011 that Hans Weilenmann issued me with a Mustad 277 #32 hook. I'm not sure how long they've been out of production but the last I heard, folk were buying single hooks for $10 a piece and that was some years ago. The 277 is a perversely small hook (pretty much fits in the gap of a 518 #32), and it's taken the last eighteen months to work out how best to approach tying a fly on one. The oversized looking vise is actually the HMH micro-jaw...
Here's the recipe:
Hook: Mustad 277 #32
Thread: Single strand of Sinton mono
Tails: Three barbs of light dun hackle
Hackle: Whiting micro-Midge from Marvin Nolte at BFFI 2010
Thorax: Natural mole
There's more good stuff about this hook from Niclas Runarsson at Swedneck Flyfishing who ties a sweet small fly....

Yep. Sideways
To put the hook in context:
Cheers,

Nik puts a loupe over them at shows so people understand there's something beneath...Biology wrote:There's more good stuff about this hook from Niclas Runarsson at Swedneck Flyfishing who ties a sweet small fly....
