Beginners line

Post by CoveMan »

Any advice on the best and most forgiving of weight 6 WF floating lines would be appreciated. Wanted for an adult new to fly fishing. And yes, I have advised getting lessons too.

Thanks for your help

I think it can depend. But the i-line is a really good place to start. Makes life easy in a lot of ways.

any of Mike Barrio's lines, they're all excellent. with a personal preference of the GT 90 for a beginner. 24 £ shipped anywhere in the world

Thanks both. I'm certainly happy with the Barrio line that I use and it's great value. Haven't tried the iLine.

Are there no more Loopers that were beginners at some time?

Keith, thing is almost any line made now is pretty darn good. it's hard to go wrong until one starts looking for situation specific lines, not what a beginner should be worrying about.

fwiw, i believe there's more to learn from DT lines than with WFs. i should have mentioned this in my first reply.

cheers,

Thanks very much Marc, I'm going to suggest the Barrio at the price, because I've used one myself and its Scottish connection.

I second the GT90 and Marc's advice to check out DT-lines. A DT-line combined with a slow(ish) rod is IMO a wonderful way to learn the fundamentals of fly casting and presentation.

Cheers,

DT line for sure is the best option for a beginner .
I used to have Cortland 444 Laser (?) DT which last me for a years of practice ...

A Rio Mainstream DT is great and inexpensive- I use it myself.

Yes but I started just as the switch from cane to fibre glass and silk to plastic had begun.

A cheap mill end DT is the way to go.

Mike
it's casting Jim, but not as we know it, according to EFFA
