What causing this loop shape - fault finding

Post by CAL »

I notice from a lot of photos taken of me casting I get this little wiggle on the top leg, at the front of the loop.

Can anyone tell me why this is?

Hey Marc,

I am referring more to the wiggles at the front of the loop (top). Id be interested to know what causes the dolphin shape too ;)

Cheers

Nope, but you've come to the right place! :p :D
Gordon Judd has done some fantastic experiments to help understand that type of loop a little better. Maybe i can find some links or you could just run a search for "dolphin nose" here on the forum. There are two different schools out there, one assuming it would happen in a vacuum too and the other one seeing the cause in aerodynamics. Got a spaceship?

There isn't a fault to find. It's the ultimate in minimum effort.

it's casting Jim, but not as we know it, according to EFFA

Is noone going to compliment the man on his AWESOME wading "boots"?

Bright orange Nike's with blue swoosh and laces! Are you kidding me? Automatic 15 added style points. Probably gets better distance with those as well.

Well done CAL, and welcome aboard!!!

I just wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing so I thought I would post on here to see if anyone knew.

:D Thanks Matt

Cal, dont worry about it. Dolphin nosed loops means you are doing it right. Just go with that. Tim Rajeff has told some of us that it is fine, and he's a gold standard as far as I'm concerned.

So, do have felt/studs on those sweet Nike's?

Fair enough!

Well Matt, after much thought I decided to go for the more "environmentally friendly" rubber soles.

Hi Cal,
Maybe it is only me but I see a small concave and to me this loop will end up as a tendency to tail or a small tail.

Do you remember how the cast ended?
The speed that you where casting and is your line feedback slow, medium or fast?
Difficult to tell from 1 photo.

Cheers,
William.

Hi Cal,

Line feedback is your hand and line moving up after it went down when you made the haul.

Cal, Slow is good!
Keep on casting small loops, start in slow motion and speed it up.
Watch your loops, when they look bad, slow down again etc.
