Cold saltwater setup for £400 - Rod and reel combo for Danish ST
Hi guys,
A work colleague of mine is looking to get into fishing for sea trout along the coast here in Denmark. He has set himself a budget of around £400, which I would imagine would get him a decent enough setup. I'm pretty sure any 7weight freshwater lake/river outift would suffice, but can anyone suggest a rod and reel that would stand a bit of saltwater punishment.
Secondhand gear is always an option but as he's fairly new to the sport I'm afraid there is a baffling array of gear on offer these days........
Thanks.

Plenty of good rods within that budget, have a look at Vision, Scierra or Guideline.
I am a big fan of the Vosseler DC reels.

Problem is with all these rods is they don't state whether or not the reel seat and rings are saltwater proof, unless they are purely marketed as SW sticks.Jeroen wrote:Plenty of good rods within that budget, have a look at Vision, Scierra or Guideline.

He's going to just be targeting sea trout along the Danish coast initially, so the rod and reel are going to have to robust. Problem is when you start going down the pure SW gear route the cost escalates at an alarming rate.

Mate, I specifically tried to find specialised coastal rods. The brands are Scandinavian and are used with the specifics of sea trout fishing in Scandinavia. Read the descriptions..
And as Lasse mentioned. This isn't high saline ocean fishing. The baltic and connecting waters aren't high in salt content.

How about an Orvis Access 7wt? SW configured.

Thanks guys. I'm totally oblivious to the SW scene over here in Denmark, so I guess most of the scandanvian rods listed as ST sticks will have this use in mind.Jeroen wrote:Mate, I specifically tried to find specialised coastal rods. If he finds a good rod and reel, let him have a look at the Barrio GT90 intermediate. We tried a load of lines on a seatrout trip last April and the GT90 was unanimously voted as the favourite.
