leg material?

Post by o2flyfish »

Hi all,

Can any one identify the fly tying material used for the legs on this carb fly?

Jannie Visser Crab

Have been trying to get some for some large shrimp patterns.
Although it is wet and the sun is not sunny, we can have lots of good fun that is funny.

Micro Ultra Chenille or Micro Vernille Chenille maybe.
Hard to tell from the photo.

All those type of flies spin when stripped, look nice, but catch more anglers than fish.

Stick to this type of pattern, and colour variations thereof .
Wet test every fly before you use it in anger.

Hi guys,

Its not micro ultra chenille as I have some and the leg material on the crab fly is smaller and more limp. Not sure about the Vernille, will have to keep an eye out.

thefly, yip thats a very similar pattern to my favorite bonefish fly, the Merkwan, don't go anywhere without a tank and pink version. I do not attend on using this materials for crabs but rather a size 2 shrimp pattern for large bones. What hook have you used in that pattern looks nice and strong?

Hoping some of the SA boys will be able to help, think some of the Seychelles guides use it on there patterns to.

The only other thing i have seen that looks anything like that is a hares ear dubbing brush. It used to be available in quite a few colours and was distributed by Wapsi.

looks like I will have to keep searching.

The eyes look like they are made in three stages, take some heavy mono and burn the end into a ball, colour the ball with ether a permanent marker or dip it in nail polish and let dry, lastly coat the eye ether with a uv glue or some form quick dry clear coat. The trick is to have a pre-made stand ready to insert the mono into so the glue can dry. I like to use slotted foam.

It's simply micro chenille - there are so many different products out there that carries the same name.

Check out this at Troutline - might be it: http://www.troutline.ro/en....le.html

Great flycasters don't think straight - they track straight.....

If it moves - and shouldn't, use duct tape...
If it's stuck - and should move, use WD40...
