I need to add a fluorcarbon tippet of 12 lbs to a 16 lb nylon leader. What knot would you suggest?

Figure of eight. Its the knot for joining dissimilar materials. Quick and easy to tie, gives a good hold. You can even use the tag end as a dropper.

When I say I have never done this I mean use leaders of mixed material but I tapered down mono only and fluro only leaders with the improved surgeons (sometimes known as a water knot) seams to work fine.

Try it
