practice rod?

Post by mustang_50matt »

Are those practice rods that Cabelas carries worth a damn? I'd prefer to use my regular rod to practice with but it's getting effing COLD. Has anyone used one? with winter officially here the 4 footer seems like a good option for the living room.

Thanks.

Hi Matt

Is it the Echo MPR you are thinking of?

Cabelas

If so, then yes, try doing a search here about it, they have been up before :)

Cheers

Recently got hold of one to have a play about with. I've already knocked over two ornaments and lassoed the christmas tree ;)

Being serious, these are excellent. Loads and casts loops exactly like a full size rod. I've been practicing roll casts with mine on a tiled floor. When I eventually get onto water i'm gonna be dissapointed if i'm not giving the master viking roll caster a run for his money :p (in my dreams) :D

Hi Daniel!

Great news Daniel! Yes, that tool certainly can improve your rollcasting.

He is really annoyingly good at that cast... His best hits are pure murder around 20 meters. I would not roll cast against him for beer money...

But the MPR is great! Everyone should have one!

Best Regards
Stefan

Since it is way below -20 degrees Celsius right now, and has been for a while, I have almost worn out the leader, the red thick one.... Is it possible on a varnished floor? Yes if you always aim for super tight loops, it crashes into my rod tip in my FC, not in the BC. I've recently figured out why, strange how much you can learn from it, after all, it looks like a "Smurf" rod :)

Picked one up at the local shop. It's loads of fun. Been getting more accurate and throwing tighter loops. The wife hates it... I cast it at her while she's on the computer. I try to shoot it right over her shoulder and land on the keyboard...which gets me one of these  The cats eventually learn to leave it alone if you play "crack the whip" on their face a bit. I'm looking forward to this spring when the ice and snow clears out enough for me to get into my little stream. The brush is a bit to thick to get a regular fly rod in there, but I figure I can tape a reel to that MPR and have a go at it. Easy to catch fish there, they're small, aggressive and hungry. Classic small stream trout. :D
