I would like to try some sharkskin line, but some people say that it can damage your rod rings, is this true.

No I don't think this is true, at least I haven't heard it being the case. It can damage your fingers however.

Well, I used a Sharkskin on my 6# exclusively from when I built it. I liked the line a lot, however the rings have worn rather excessively. I have the same brand of rings on my 5# which is a couple of years older and has seen a lot more use, these are still good. I have only used conventional lines on this rod. May just be a coincidence, but I'm not taking any chances.
