On a serious note - is it acceptable in this competition to have the rod butt inside your sleeve?

Sounds like the same old same old. The tossers who run that event just don't realise the effort some people put in to preparing for that it. Nor do they appreciate it's potential. And then they make you wear a bloody tabard (which I assume was advertising something). Good job you didn't qualify Hamish, they wouldn't have had one your size :D .

Well done to everyone for giving it a go though. One day someone will listen to us and sort the rules out.

Nothing in the rules to say you can't tuck the rod butt into your sleeve. Can't say it would even have entered my head to do so but it seems legal.
