Post by grunde »

Hi guys,

anyone tried the 4 or 5wt ONE in 9'6" or 10'? Also open for suggestions about other similar rods

Cheers,
Grunde

Getting a bigger rod???

I have cast the 10 foot 6 ONE, its something pretty special. Mate uses it all the time along the lake shore.

Hi Grunde,

I have the 596 ONE and really like it. In my opinion its a great all round rod with finesse and plenty of grunt if you need it.

For fishing I have been using SA's Trout Stalker in a 6wt and for casting a Barrio GT140 in a 5wt.

Hope that helps.

Closest I've cast is the XP#4 10' which is very much a high-stick trout nymphing rod. Very firm butt section, and a tip that doesn't droop much when held out horizontally leading a line. Most casting I did with it was short range so I don't think I ever flexed into the lower two sections. I would expect something similar from a ONE 410-4 except lighter... that's speculation.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm simply looking for a long light trout rod for fishing in forest lakes (lots of roll casting), deep wading situations and fishing from a kayak or a float-tube.

I've tried the ONE 490 and 691. Nice rods, but maybe a bit to "tippy", was wondering if the linger rods appears "deeper".

Cheers,
Grunde

Grunde - See if you can get your hands on Sage's new ESN (Eurpoean Special Nymph) - 10 foot in 2,3,4&5 weights. Nice easy action, roll casts and single hand spey cast beautifully. I'm yet to find the right line for it, I just haven't had time to experiment, I think a DT will be great.

Morsie,

Any vibrations at the end of the cast with the ESN #2? Try with a little more wrist input to see if any, I wish I can test it in february.

Grunde,

In another range (less expensive): Marryat 10 feet for #4 (good all rounder), tested after an advice of a representative from L..... in a show, or the new A4, another all rouder type of rod.

Merlin I only have the 10 ft 3 weight, yes you do need to be softer with your hands... and consciously smoother.

Morsie

Not really surprising. Frequent problem with #4, and the situation worsens for lighter lines. A design headache.

My cure: I do not use the wrist at all in this case.
