Hi,

Anyone going to this competition on Friday in Lochinver?

Can't find any info on the disciplines being tested - anyone know?

Thanks,

You should enter the piping competition too. I would.
It's an exploration; bring flyrods.

Ok!

First ever competition, and I came third! (and wond £8 - I'm a professional!)

I'm...er...hooked!

I threw 92' 8" (28.25m)

First was 97' 8" and second 97' 2".

We had to use a supplied rod (Ron Thompson 270 #6/7 with a shooting head.)

Not sure if this image is going to work, but this link should!

Where do I go in Norway?

Cheers,

Never heard of this event before and as Lochinver is an easy hour and half from me (longer if Ben_D is in the car) I wish I'd known!!
Have to keep an eye open for that one next year.

Was it just the one outfit or were there different disciplines?

Hi,

There was just:

- 9' 6/7
- 15 footer

I think 6 or 8 competitors in each. Local fishermen, maybe a ghillie or two and a couple of holiday makers - like me.

The Lochinver Highland Games are just one of many regional events that go on around Scotland every Summer, very traditional stuff: piping, tossing the kaber, the hammer and lots of Scottish Country dancing as well.

See The Scottish Highland Games Association .

Very friendly, very low key - good fun. The casting is not a main event in any shape or form, definitely a minor side show. Both competitions were over in little more than an hour.

Probably not worth driving an hour and a half for a pair of pros!

Cheers,

B

Cool, so much the same as the Moy fair - albeit the Moy fair doesn't have single handed distance.

It's worth the drive..... practice, practice, practice
And for a day out with she who must be obeyed. Obviously.
