Great title - can i add a Womanshit topic? - salt water fishing in 100 metres

Post by Glenda »

let me know if this is not the right place but i did some bait fishing in Byron Bay over the Melbourne Cup weekend.

Charter took us 25 kms offshore and we fished in 80-100 metres.

It took all my energy just to reel in the line when it was time to move the boat... the sinker was the heaviest i have ever used!!

it was even more tiring to hall in the line with fish on the end and the fish weren't small.... can't remember the name but one was about 75 cms long.

i was upset to learn we couldn't throw any of the fish back because the fish had been hauled up from 95 metres - the bladders of most were protuding from their mouth. it was explained to me it was like a diver coming up quickly from the same depth and experiencing the 'bends'.

although i do prefer flyfishing, i still like the odd bait fishing... i still had to have my "after catch cigarette"...

forgive me for if this is wanky.... :p

Good thing with those deepwater bait bouncing trips is that most of the fish you catch are pretty good eating!

Fun! I haven't fished like that in a very long time Glenda. Must try it again some time!
It's an exploration; bring flyrods.
