I'v just got back from a trip to Alphonse Island.
I caught well over 100 bonefish a load of emperor fish, blue fin but GTs.
There were a few great fish though.
On the first day it pissed it down and I thought that it would be like my last trip there - a disaster, this was not the case.
Using one of my latex crabs I managed to catch this young chap.
It was quite a fight with the fish going into its nest. I managed to get it out with sustained pressure and landed it with almost a straightened hook.
The weather improved at the fishing became good but not great until thursday when with one of my first casts of the day I hooked this milkfish. It took over half an hour to land. These fish are exceptionally strong.
We went back to the same spot and after a couple more casts I caught this other fish.
On the next day I caught this one.
3 milks in a couple of days practically unheard of before.
I caught all this fish on my old 8wt Zerogravity with a Hatch 7plus reel.

Wow Pete...
Sounds like a stunning trip and certainly not disappointing with the awesome fish. I have been drooling over Google Earth over the past few days, checking out all the atols in that area... The bucket list grows bigger. Will certainly pick your brain when I manage to pull off any of these trips.
Awesome going again on the wonderful fish. Please post more pics.

The fly was a pattern that they had developed on Alphonse.
It has a pink chenille head, white under wing, chartreuse over wing both in craft fur with a couple of strands of UV flash.
It is meant to represent all possible milkfish food options.
Pink ball for shrimp eggs.
Green and white for algae.
UV flash for plankton.
