Deano,

Is that a 2006 model ?

The Exage range of fly rods was dropped for 2007.

Shimano own GLoomis (I think) so it shouldn't be too shabby.

Whats is wrong with a GLX, Axis or a TCR ?

Andy, You can mention it if it's relavant to the topic and that you're affiliated with them, but don't turn it into spam/advertising :p (Paul's rules)

i'd best not, dont want to rock the boat or anything !
those biocrafts are a bargain though, the company who has them at half price must be a real company of the people, willing to slash prices to give customers the best deals on top brand products :p :p :;): :;):

If the rods are half price - and they're still making a profit - it makes you wonder what their margin is in the first place?
It's an exploration; bring flyrods.

In a retail system sometimes you can greatly discount and still make money even with industry standard margins.

This is a simplified example but what happens is say they buy 100 rods at $50 apiece and sell them for $100. They have $5000 dollars in cost and have to sell 50 rods at $100 to recoup that expense.

Maybe they aren't selling well and they can only move 50 of them at $100. At that point they've covered their cost and instead of letting the remaining 50 sit on the shelf for another year they cut the cost to $50 to clear the shelves for something that does sell. They only made $2500 instead of the desired $5000 but at least they make room for something that does sell and in the long run they're making more money by discounting than trying to maintain top price.

jay,
most of what is percieved as "sale stock" are actually clearance lines that the manufacturer sell to the retailer at a reduced price. then the retailer can market the product as "reduced price" even if they never sold the product in the first place.

paul,
I can promise that the margins are not there for us to be able to reduce them by that amount from their original cost price, i wish they were!

A mate of mine brought two biocrafts to Scotland last year. They were the worst rod I've ever handled and tried to cast with. Some of the others -who are way better casters than I am- of the party thought the same. Every part had a very big flat spot. The rod just didn't transport the energy generated and felt like a partly boiled noodle.

which ones were they? by their own admission they said the original biocraft xt was bad, and boy were they bad.
the xta seems to be an improvement though, id be suprised if it was an xta.

I know a couple driving pretty nice Range Rovers and the son of one who's driving a Lotus :D and yes I know quite a few tackle retailers.

Andy - shops are in business to make profit - if you guys turn over volume and make a profit buying cheap and selling cheap - good for you, its hard work. But, unless you squeeze your eyes really tight shut the word profit is the hinge in that sentence. The idea that a shop is "a company of the people" is just stretching things a little far.
Good value - offering a fair deal I can get behind
