Speights Coast to Coast - Paul dies.

Post by Paul Arden »

So let's shoot this thing off with a bang.

On the 9th, which is less than two bloody weeks away, Mr fucking Sexyloops attempts the Coast to Coast. Which is a hardcore endurance race - racing, not surprisingly, perhaps, from one coast of the SI to the other.

I have to run 36K [over a mountain], Kayak 67K [through a gorge] and cycle 140K.

Chris the Man is part of my backup crew, in fact I think he IS my backup crew. I'm learning to kayak this week and basically I think it's going to be a blast.

SO, let's turn this into something useful and make some more $$ for our very deserving charity of the moment.

You can pledge per Km or just for finishing. Don't pledge me to win because I'm not planning on that.

Cheers and thanks!
Paul

Hi Paul,

I have a paddling helmet and a life vest you can use, if they fit of course :-). No jacket or skirt though.

Are you after a road bike or would a mountain bike do? I have a pretty decent new mountain bike, hard tail, not too heavy. Skinny slicks pumped up hard are ok for on the road, I used to do long rides on the roads ( 100 km plus, Round Taupo etc. ) using those. Not quite as efficient as a road bike, but still pretty good, and a lot less crash prone ;-). I don't have any tri bars though :-).

Regards,

Jo

Thanks Eric.

Jo, helmet would be great, thanks, also the vest! I really need a road bike otherwise it's going to be dark by the time I get to CHCH. I have a Tri-bike in the UK but I'm hoping not to bring it over.

Running 20K/day now. That bit's going ok.

OK bringing my bike over, so that problem solved. I think all I'm missing now is a spray skirt, jacket and a kayak certificate.

We have to check-in on the 7th. 8th is a rest day, so I think we should go fishing and have a kayak the river! Early start on the 9th.

Will have it Sunday one way or another. It's been a bit difficult because the rivers have been frozen...
