Had a brilliant afternoon on the lake again... went to practice a few slack line presentations.
The weather isn't the best but what the hell... I managed a couple of fish in difficult overcast spotting conditions.
I spotted a fish sitting about 2 feet down in a pocket in the lake bed... I used the pile cast as learnt last Saturday
at the casting clinic in Queenstown by Paul.
Hooked up to a solid fish to find once netted how solid it was...

Solid fat fish...

The TWO trout (both big browns) were holding at the surface in the "V" of the fallen trees.

Question - if you cast over the log and hook one how the fcuk do you kand it? We didnt :D

Diabolical Barstools...... If they are as large as I think they maybe. Just take pics and enjoy, other then that... is there a way to lead them tot he large end of the V..

I would go about 1/2 mile down stream and then leopard crawl up the bank behind them and cast to them from the Camera mans POV..

Mike,

Do you find the black beads good?

Looks like a pheasant tail of some kind?

Maybe you need some stronger hooks, wondeful fish, well done, worth the soaking!!

The fly is a bead head hare and copper variant with a possum collar behind the bead.
Tungsten bead to get down quick, black works well when the waters clear and the fish pressured...
It's a good generic pattern that works well, tied awhile ago so can't remember what hook it was.
I wasn't expecting such a good fish so put more pressure than usual :p
